FROGGIES and anything GREEN.....

I have been rattling so much about other things but almost forgot about one of my favourites in my life - FROGS!!(but not live ones lah, and I did receive a pair on my birthday in 1999 which almost freaked me out. Quite similar to those on the photo at the left)

So how did my love for froggie stuff come about? It can be traced back to the 1990s, when sanrio toys are in vogue especially Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty created quite a big stir in the local fast food scene -where people Q for hours to buy special fast food meals which came with a special edition of the Hello Kitty stuff toys.

Okay, how is my froggie connected with Hello Kitty? Well, kind of ,since Hello Kitty and Kerokeroppi are both of sanrio origin. I gathered with the fame of Hello Kitty, I began to take notice of other sanrio products when I shopped around Japanese stores. That's when I chanced upon the frog - kerokeroroppi.....totemo kawaii ne! (very cute in jap ) . Donno why, but I simply love it and began to buy anything with kerokeroppi face on it - be it cups, plates, toothbrushes, stationery etc. My ex-colleagues in my former workplace also started to buy me kerokeroppi stuff whenever they chanced upon it. It was easy to lay hands on sanrio stuff those days as 1990s was also the hey days of a famous $2 shop which also brought in sanrio stuff . Strangely, it was hard for me to find kerokeroppi stuff in the 100 yen shop (jap version of the $2 shop in Singapore) when I went to Japan in 1998.

Believe it or not, I actually had a kerokeroppi "shrine"in my workstation at my former workplace (a corner next to my PC which was devoted to displaying the stuff). Then, I was not bashful about displaying them since my work was related to child care or maybe, it could be my work that brought out the "little child" in me.

(Art piece drawn by my pal, angie- I named it " The Many Expressons of Keroppi". Ya lah, I know that it's not a very creative name. But should "call a spade a spade" mah)

Anyhow, slowly, my ex-colleagues ran out of kerokeroppi stuff to buy for me as I have almost everything. One of them then decided to buy a non-kerokeroppi froggie soft toy for me on my birthday. She gathered that since kerokeroppi is a frog, I should have no problems accepting other froggie stuff. BINGO! she is right to a certain certain. It took a while for me to like the new froggie stuff toy (Ya, it actually grows on me)........That's how my love for froggie stuff begins......and it gradually expands to anything that is green in colour....That also explains the green background of this blog and the blog address......

(Just a small collection here as the rest are in a box - to prevent them from "hopping away"....just joking lah, I am just too lazy to take them out to take photos . Anyhow, I have requested my friends not to get froggie stuff for me anymore due to space constraint )

It's shower time!! or "Struggle time" :P

Goodness!! it was an extremely uphill task to bring Ma ma to the shower with a cast on her right leg. At 53 kg, she is heavier than Noime and me and we both struggled to transfer her from the wheelchair to the toilet.

We didn't succeed as the wheelchair is too big to be pushed inside the toilet ( hopefully newer flats would have toilets with wider doors! - An important consideration given the ageing population).

The other reason was Mama - she simply refused to let us help her get off from the wheelchair. She had wanted to do the transfer on her own instead. She was more worried for our safety, fearing that she would land on us if we fail to support her as we appear to be too frail to support her.

In such moment of desperation, an idea struck me! - why not use the commode, which is less bulky than the wheelchair , to do the transfer? So, we transferred her onto the commode and managed to push her into the toilet. Yeah!! we succeeded! but not without suffering from some backache due to the initial tries......

A nephew is born

9 Dec 06 (backdated entry)

18 November 2006 was a joyous day for many of us in the family - our little buddle of joy was born. He is the offspring of my dear cousin Rebecca and cousin-in-law, Ricky.

He was delivered at Mt E. Rebecca braved through labour pain and gave birth to him without the use of epidural. Ricky was calm, rendered loads of support and also managed to take shots of the process to share with us.

A month later, he was given the name, 靖熹 - Jaeng Hee and I had a part in translating his name to Hokkien (Thanks to the inspiration which came about from watching the korean dramas).
